Quickly & easily make your own coconut milk instead of buying canned

Don’t buy any coconut milk or cream in the carton or canned. Both have a plastic lining. Even if it says BPA free, it’s still plastic. It will leach chemicals into your food.

Find a young coconut, try to find ones with no black spots (mold) on them. If it has a little it’s ok. Just make sure to use it right away. The reason why you want a young coconut vs a mature coconut is because the young coconut will be completely full of delicious coconut water.

Don’t be afraid that you can’t open the coconut. I explain a very simple process in the video.

After you get all the coconut water & meat out of the young coconut you just need to throw it all into a high speed blender like a Vitamix or a Blendtec. Either will work fine. Since the meat on the young coconut is pretty soft, you won’t need to blend it very long. Just until it starts to look nice and smooth.

This usually makes about 2 cups on average. Pour it into a glass jar with a metal lid and store in the fridge for about a week max. I honestly always finish it before the week is out. So not sure honestly how long it will keep. But the sooner you can use it the better.

This is actually cheaper than buying the canned coconut milk if you can get the young coconut for about $2 each. I get my coconut at Sprouts Market. They are twice as much as Whole Foods. Could try looking at your local asian markets too.

Enjoy your fresh made coconut milk, that’s free from plastic contamination, thickening agents and/or emulsifiers. This is far superior to the stuff in the carton or canned & tastes amazing!
