Plastic Free Water Storage & Transport

I store my at home in our Minox Stainless Steel Water Dispenser Fusti which holds 25 Liters / 6.6 Gallons. Even the spigot is stainless steel, which is important to me because at no point does plastic come in contact with our water. I don’t like the idea of getting a ceramic, steel or glass water container if the spigot is plastic. Defeats the purpose of trying to go plastic free. I got our water dispenser from WaterCheck.biz for about $260. Yes, it’s expensive. But it’s a lifetime purchase for me.

I’ve started to replace my plastic 5 gallon water jugs with a 3 or 5 gallon glass carboy with a natural cork instead of a plastic lid.

The glass on these glass carboys are pretty thick too. You can find these at local brew shops usually or your local classifieds. I got something called a Brew Hauler, which makes it a lot easier to carry.
[Update: I guess the sun was shining on the glass Carboy in my kitchen or the car & it burned through the Brew Hauler a little. So I didn’t feel comfortable using it anymore. So I just carry it without it now. It’s not bad, just have to be conscious of your movement.
5 Gallon Carboy with water weighs about 55 lbs
3 Gallon Carboy with water weighs about 37 lbs
Yes, the glass is heavier & could break. But I’m ok with that. Rather deal with that, than expose myself to the secret chemicals yet to be discovered in plastic.

For our water transport, after a lot of searching we finally found at least 2 companies (Klean Kanteen, Cloud9 & Pura) that have a stainless steel water bottle that actually has a stainless steel lid on the inside. Meaning, no plastic comes in contact with your water.

My favorite one is from Klean Kanteen with the stainless steel and bamboo lid. Most of the steel & glass water containers have a plastic lid, which is disappointing.
